The Lost Temples, Assu and Lumbung Temples
unexplored Hindu temples on the slopes of Mount Merapi and set amongst beautiful rice fields.

These temples are rarely visited and very interesting because they were never finished. Incomplete carvings and deep shaft in the centre of the temples store a treasure box. Walk through villages and rice fields to visit these unfinished temples then onto a small river that weneed to ford - water knee high - to visit another totally unspoiled temple. Picnic lunch will be served in a secluded area under beautiful trees. Visit the Merapi observation site about 30 minutes away. It is a great spot to view the volcano from as close as one can get.

Selogriyo Temple

Dieng Plateau Hindu Shrines
the mysterious plains

A mythical landscape, mysterious yet powerful, dotted with dozen 9th century Hindu shrines. Visit the temples, walk around the sulphur-rich coloured lakes and see mud bubbling around you. A unique experience, just two hours away from Losari. On the road you will see how the farmers use all land available by utilizing terraces. The weather is very cool, since you are almost above the clouds. Bringing a sweater along is strongly advisable.
Within the complex are numerous cones, many of which are 30 - 100 feet (100 - 300 m) high. Most cones are made of cinders or ash. Lava flows are less common. Telaga Warna is a lake within a broad, low-relief cone. Gas bubbles are seen rising to the surface of the lake and the air has a sulphurous odour.
